Digital menu for Bhuj restaurants

Bhuj is quiet for half the year and full of visitors for the other half, when the Rann season brings people who have never eaten Kachchhi food and cannot read a menu written for locals. Those are the months a menu has to do the explaining.

What your diners get

A QR code on the table, and a menu that opens in their own browser. No app, no sign-in, no waiting for a card to be brought over. Kachchhi dabeli travels the country under that name, and a visitor who has only had the Mumbai version should see yours before ordering it.

They can see the food

Every dish carries its photograph, its price and what is in it. On the higher plans a dish can be a 3D model the diner turns around, or placed on their actual table in augmented reality — which is worth the most on exactly the dishes a first-time diner would otherwise skip.

They can read it in their own language

Gujarati, Hindi and English side by side, chosen by the diner rather than by you. A visitor who cannot tell a rotla from a thepla by name can still order it.

They can order without waiting

Turn table ordering on and the order goes from their phone to your counter or kitchen screen with the table number on it. Turn it off and the QR is a menu and nothing more. Both are supported, and a takeaway counter can have its own QR that asks for a name instead of a table.

What you get behind it

Change a price and it changes on every table at once. Mark a dish out of stock from your phone mid-service and it greys out immediately. Add today's special in the afternoon and it is on the menu before the evening.

You can see which dishes people actually look at and for how long, which is a different list from the one that sells — and knowing the difference is what tells you which photograph to reshoot.

The staff screens are separate from yours: a kitchen screen with the tickets, a floor view for waiters, a counter for taking phone and walk-in orders. Everyone sees only their own job.

The kinds of places this suits in Bhuj

A digital menu is not one thing. What a thali house needs from it and what a takeaway counter needs are different, and both are here.

Restaurants working the Rann season

Four months of strangers. Everything they order is decided from a photograph.

Dabeli and street counters

One famous item and a dozen nobody asks for. Pictures move the dozen.

Hotels and traveller stops on the highway

People passing through who will not come back and decide in two minutes.

Kachchhi thali houses

Food that has to be introduced before it can be sold.

Getting started in Bhuj

  1. Put your menu in. Type it, or paste your whole existing menu in one go and let it split into dishes and categories. Photographs can come later — the menu works without them.
  2. Print your QR codes. One per table, and one for the counter if you do takeaway. Each table's code knows which table it is, so an order arrives already labelled.
  3. Watch a service. The free trial has everything switched on. Run it through one busy evening before you decide anything.

What it costs

Every plan carries the whole menu — unlimited dishes, photographs, Gujarati and Hindi. What changes higher up is what diners can do: call a waiter, see a dish in 3D and AR, order from the table. Every restaurant starts on a free trial with everything switched on, so you can see the difference before you choose.

Questions restaurant owners ask

Our season is four months long. Do we pay all year?

Plans are monthly, so a seasonal restaurant can run them through the season and let them lapse afterwards. Your menu stays where it is either way; only ordering and the extras switch off when a plan ends.

Do my customers need to download an app?

No. The menu opens in whatever browser is already on their phone. They point the camera at the QR code on the table, the menu loads, and that is the whole thing — nothing to install, nothing to sign in to.

Can the menu be in Gujarati?

Yes. Every dish can carry a Gujarati and a Hindi name, description and price alongside the English one, and diners read whichever they choose. You fill in what you want translated; anything left blank falls back to English.

What happens when I change a price?

It changes on every table at once. There is no reprinting and no sticker over the old price — you edit the item in your dashboard and the next diner to scan sees the new one.

Can diners order from the table, or only look at the menu?

Both, and it is your choice. A menu-only QR shows the food and nothing else. Turn ordering on and diners send orders straight to your counter or kitchen screen with the table number attached. You can also keep a counter QR for takeaway.

What if a dish runs out mid-service?

Mark it out of stock from your phone and it greys out on the menu immediately. No more telling a table that the thing they just chose is finished.
